The Royal Challegers Banglore (RCB) management has made an announcement about their franchise’s new name. Since its inception in 2018, the team has been called Royal Challegers Banglore. But the franchise replaced the anglocized ‘Banglore’ in their name with the official name of the city, ‘Bengaluru’, and changed the name to ‘Royal Challegers Bengaluru.’ The announcement was made during the franchise’s UNBOX event at Bengaluru’s Chinnaswamy Stadium on Tuesday.
In fact, the Kannada people have been demanding the incorporation of the ‘Bengaluru’ in the franchise’s name instead of the anglocized ‘Banglore’ for so many years. However, until 2014, the city was called Banglore. But on November 1, 2014, it was renamed to Bengaluru.
Meanwhile, RCB didn’t win the IPL title till now from the inauguration league. But it finished as runners-up on three occasions between 2009 and 2016. The team holds the records for both the highest and lowest totals in the IPL. The team scored 263 runs against Pune in 2013 and only managed to score 49 runs against Kolkata in 2017. As The total value of the team is $69.8 million; it is one of the most valuable IPL franchises.
