Fresh off a stellar performance in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, a young Rahul found himself face-to-face with Virat Kohli, the then-captain of RCB. “There I was at the ITC Gardenia with Virat, coach Ray Jennings, and the support staff,” Rahul recalled in a video shared by Ashwin on his YouTube channel. “Virat just looked at me and said, ‘Would you like to play for RCB?'”

While Rahul eventually moved on from RCB after the 2016 season, his fondness for the franchise remains. “It would have been a dream to play my entire IPL career with Bangalore,” he admitted. “There was undoubtedly a want to begin and end there. However, one benefit of my journey has been getting to know other teams and players thanks to the Indian Premier League.”
