Dinesh Karthik, the wicketkeeper-batsman for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) has impressed Team India captain Rohit Sharma with his tenacious batting efforts in the ongoing IPL 2024 season. The legendary MS Dhoni’s cameo against the Mumbai Indians was also mentioned by him.
DK In Red-Hot Form
Karthik has been incredibly productive, amassing 226 runs at a scorching strike rate of 205.45 in just six innings. Rohit was especially impressed by his performance against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Monday, as he hammered 83 runs off just 35 balls.
Dhoni Smash
Speaking on the podcast “Club Prairie Fire,” which Adam Gilchrist and Michael Vaughan co-host, Rohit said he was impressed by both veteran MS Dhoni and Karthik. “Quite impressed, especially with Dinesh, the way he batted a couple of nights back,” Rohit commented. He praised Dhoni’s memorable cameo against MI, in which the former captain of India struck a rapid 20 runs off of just 4 balls.
Rohit Sharma Impressed With These Two
Rohit did, however, quip that it might be difficult to persuade Dhoni to participate in the forthcoming T20 World Cup in the USA and the West Indies. “It will be hard to convince MSD for sure,” Rohit said, hinting at Dhoni’s retirement from international cricket. “He’s into golf now, so he’s coming to play golf, I guess.”
On the other hand, Rohit suggested Karthik might be more receptive to a World Cup call-up. “DK will be easier to convince, I guess,” he added.
Not First-Time For DK
Karthik’s case for a berth in India’s T20 World Cup squad has undoubtedly been bolstered by his reliable performances and potent strike rate. With the competition drawing near, Rohit’s remarks stoke rumors about the team that will be chosen.
Karthik was also called-up for the last T20 World Cup, played at Australia. But he couldn’t capitalize the few chances he got before being replaced by Rishabh Pant. Team India eventually failed to reach even semifinals in the marquee event.
