In a major setback for DMK, the ruling party of Tamil Nadu, a minister of the state and the son of the state’s CM, MK Stalin, Udayanidhi Stalin, received a warning from the Supreme Court. The Apex Court cautioned Udayanidhi over his controversial comments on Sanatan Dharam in September last year.
Udayanidhi made some controversial comments on Sanatan dharma by comparing it to dengue and calling for its eradication. This sparked a huge controversy all over the country, specifically between Hindus. Many Hindus demanded an apology from Udayanidhi. Some BJP leaders had filed cases in court.
But he never apologized. Moreover, whenever the media questioned him about this, he always supported his comments and alleged that the media turned it into a controversy.
While participating in an event, the TN minister said, “There are some things that we can’t merely oppose; we must have to eradicate them. Mosquitoes, dengue, coronavirus, and malaria are things that we cannot oppose; we have to eradicate them. Sanatanam is also the same. So not only opposing Sanatanam is enough; it must be eradicated, and it has to be our first task.”
However, in the recent hearing, the Supreme Court cautioned Udayanidhi Stalin and warned him over his comments. While hearing the plea, the top court’s bench of justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Datta said, “You abuse your rights under Article 19(1)(a). You abuse your rights under Article 25. Now that you are filing a plea in the Supreme Court and exercising your right under Article 32, Don’t you know the consequences of your comments? You are not a layman. You are the minister of a state. You should know the consequences of what you said.”
