IPL 2024: Team India captain Rohit Sharma shared a heartfelt message as MS Dhoni decided to step down as Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper ahead of IPL 2024. CSK announced this shocking news just a day before IPL 2024 started.
The 17th season of the IPL will kick off on March 22, with last year’s champions, CSK locking horns with the Faf Du Plessis-led Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at MA Chidambaram Stadium. This is one of the most awaited matches of the new IPL season.
As the CSK officially announced the news of Dhoni being replaced by Ruturaj Gaikwad as the Chennai franchise’ captain, Rohit shared a picture where he was seen with Dhoni. Rohit added a handshake emoji to the post.
Rohit-Dhoni Bonding:
This post went viral in minutes after being shared, as both Rohit and Dhoni shares the record of winning most IPL trophies. It is also known that Dhoni backed Rohit when he was down on luck. It was Dhoni, who made Rohit an opener for the first time and the rest was history.
So, they both share a great bond together. It was also worth mentioning that Rohit was also replaced as Mumbai Indians captain just ahead of the IPL 2024 season. Star allrounder Hardik Pandya replaced him as the MI skipper.
Dhoni As CSK Skipper:
As for Dhoni, the 42-year old led the CSK in 212 IPL matches, winning 128 matches and losing 82. Dhoni retired from international cricket on August 15, 2020. He led Team India to glory in the 2007 T20 World Cup, 2011 ODI World Cup and the 2013 Champions Trophy.
Dhoni led the Chennai franchise to a record-equaling fifth IPL title last year. The 42-year-old captained Chennai since the inaugural IPL season in 2008. He failed to lead CSK in only two seasons when the franchise was suspended due to fixing charges.
Dhoni handed over the captaincy mantle to star-all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja at the start of the 2022 season. But returned to the helm after just eight matches into the season as the franchise suffered consecutive losses.
