Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have suffered a blow with their in-form batsman Devon Conway being ruled out of the remaining Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season due to injury. The official announcement came on Thursday, with the IPL confirming Conway’s absence and CSK revealing England pacer Richard Gleeson as his replacement.
Conway: A Vital Cog in CSK’s Batting Line-Up:
Conway, a vital cog in CSK’s batting lineup for the past two seasons, amassed 924 runs in 23 matches, including nine half-centuries and an unbeaten 92. He was already expected to miss the initial half of the season due to a thumb surgery. Last year, the left-hander was instrumental in CSK’s championship run, scoring a staggering 672 runs in just 15 innings at an impressive average of 51.69.
England’s Richard Gleeson Bolsters CSK’s Bowling Attack:
To bolster their bowling attack, CSK brought in Richard Gleeson for the remaining matches. The English fast bowler has experience in six T20 internationals for England, claiming nine wickets. Gleeson boasts an impressive overall T20 record with 101 wickets in 90 matches. He was acquired by CSK at his base price of INR 50 lakh. Gleeson’s T20 credentials include a memorable debut where he scalped three crucial Indian wickets: Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Rishabh Pant. The right-arm pacer has also surpassed the 100-wicket mark in T20s, including a five-wicket haul, and has 143 wickets in first-class cricket.
CSK in Strong Position Despite Setback:
Despite the setback of Conway’s absence, CSK are currently sitting comfortably in third place on the points table with four wins in six matches, accumulating eight points. The five-time IPL champions will face their next challenge against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) tomorrow at the Ekana Cricket Stadium.
