Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson was docked for a slow over-rate offense during their IPL 2024 match against the Gujarat Titans on Wednesday, which the Royals unfortunately lost on the very last ball.
The Gujarat Titans won a thrilling match in Jaipur’s Sawai Mansingh Stadium. Shubman Gill’s well-played fifty, combined with late heroics from Rahul Tewatia and Rashid Khan, clinched GT’s thrilling three-wicket win.
Royals Fight Back After Early Setbacks
GT chose to field first after winning the toss. Rajasthan lost their openers, Jos Buttler and Yashasvi Jaiswal, easily. However, skipper Sanju Samson (68* off 38 balls) and Riyan Parag (76 off 48 balls) put together a crucial 130-run third-wicket stand, rescuing the Royals innings. RR scored a good 196/3 in their 20 overs.
Rashid Khan was the most economical bowler for GT, conceding just 18 runs and picking up a wicket. Umesh Yadav and Mohit Sharma also chipped in with a wicket apiece.
GT Executes Last-Ball Thriller
GT, chasing 197 for victory, got off to a good start with a 64-run opening pair from Sai Sudarshan and Shubman Gill. But wickets began to fall at regular intervals, and despite Gill’s 72-run knock, GT found themselves in a vulnerable situation at 133/5 in the sixteenth over.
Shahrukh Khan’s cameo (14 off 8 balls) provided some momentum, and a 38-run stand between Rahul Tewatia (22 off 11 balls) and Rashid Khan (24* off 11 balls) rekindled GT’s hopes. With nerves frayed, Rashid Khan slammed a boundary off the penultimate delivery of the match, sealing a stunning victory for the Titans.
