Team India captain Rohit Sharma talked about the team’s loss to Australia in the 2023 ODI World Cup final in a recent interview. Although he acknowledged the team’s incredible performance during the competition, he acknowledged that Australia had a slight advantage in the decisive game.
“The 50-over World Cup holds immense importance for me,” Sharma said. “We grew up watching it, and playing in India with the home crowd behind us made it even more special. We played some fantastic cricket leading up to the final. After the semi-final victory, everything felt right, and I genuinely believed we were on the cusp of glory. Unfortunately, the final turned out to be our off day. While we didn’t necessarily play poorly, certain things didn’t click, and Australia ultimately proved to be the better team on that occasion.”
Sharma is currently participating in the ongoing IPL season (IPL 2024). He commented on the league’s heightened competition, saying, “The IPL has evolved into a fiercely competitive tournament over the years.” There are no easy opponents now, and any team has the capacity to defeat any other. In the beginning, this was not always true. Today, because to advances in technology and data analysis, franchises have a better grasp of their shortcomings and may strategically rectify them throughout the auction process.
Later in the interview, Sharma reflected on his first Test century for India, which he scored at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. “It was a special occasion,” he explained. “It was Sachin Tendulkar’s 199th Test match, and the stadium was packed with a roaring crowd of 70,000.”
