VK and DK earned victory for RCB against the Punjab Kings at their home ground, Chinnaswamy Stadium. Batting first after losing the toss, Punjab scored 176 runs on six wickets in 20 overs. Punjab skipper S. Dhawan (45 off 37) played a captain’s inning and gave a steady start to the team. After his dismissal in the 13th over, none of the batters were able to reach the 30-run mark. Despite their fumbled batting line-up, Punjab managed to put up a fighting score of 176 runs for the loss of six wickets in their respective 20 overs. In RCB‘s bowling attack, Maxwell and Siraj took two wickets each, while Yash Dayal and Alzarri Joseph scalped one wicket each.
While chasing the target, RCB lost their skipper Du Plessis (3) and star allrounder Cameron Green (3) wickets cheaply. But the former captain, Virak Kohli, carried on the fight and smashed a valuable 77 runs off 49 balls. His classy half-century earned the team to move forward and achieve the target. Despite his dismissal in the 16th over, the replacement of him, Dinesh Karthik, completed the rest with a very quick 28 runs off 10 balls.
At the end, RCB attained their first victory in IPL 2024 and opened their account in the points table. If we talk about Punjab‘s bowling, Kagiso Rabada and Harpreet Brar scalped each two wickets, while Sam Curran and Harshal apatel took one wicket each.
