INDvsBAN: Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced a 16-member squad on Monday for the upcoming five-match T20I series against Bangladesh. The series will be played in Bangladesh, kicking off on April 28th and serving as crucial preparation for the Women’s T20 World Cup scheduled for later this year.
Veteran batter Harmanpreet Kaur will lead the Indian team once again, with opener Smriti Mandhana serving as her deputy. Wicketkeeping duties will be shared by Richa Ghosh and Yastika Bhatia.
This (INDvsBAN) series marks India’s second tour of Bangladesh in two years. In their last visit, the Women in Blue emerged victorious in a three-match T20I series (2-1).
The upcoming matches hold significant weight as India gears up for the T20 World Cup, which they will be aiming to conquer after reaching the semi-finals in the 2023 edition. India enters this series ranked third in the ICC Women’s T20I rankings, facing a Bangladeshi team currently sitting at ninth.
Bangladesh secured their spot in the T20 World Cup by virtue of being the host nation, while India qualified automatically based on their top-six finish in the 2023 tournament.
