The Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested Delhi Chief Minister Aravind Kejriwal after a 2-hour-long search and questioning at his official residence. The arrest was made in alleged connection with Delhi’s recently scrapped liquor policy.
Through this arrest, Kejriwal has become the first sitting CM to be arrested in the history of independent India. However, the Aam Aadmi Party has said the Kejriwal will continue to hold the CM post and run the government from jail.
While speaking from the outside of the CM’s residence, AAP’s minister, Atishi, said, “We are getting reports that the ED has arrested our CM Kejriwal. This arrest is a conspiracy by the central govt and PM Modi. The investigation of this case began two years ago; despite over 1,000 raids on AAP leaders and ministers, the ED or the CBI has not been able to recover a single rupee.”
The arrest is just a conspiracy ahead of the Lok Sabha election to prevent us from winning. But the BJP should know that Mr. Kejriwal is not just a man; he is a thought. If you think arresting Kejriwal can finish off the thought, you are mistaken. Mr. Kejriwal is, was, and will remain the chief minister of Delhi,” she said.
Pointing out their efforts to knock on the Supreme Court’s door against the arrest, the Delhi minister said, “Mr. Kejriwal has not been convicted. The fight will go on, and we have already approached the SC against this unconstitutional arrest, she said.”
