Mumbai Indians fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah etched his name further into the record books on Sunday by becoming the third highest wicket taker in a single franchise and the bowler to reach 150 wickets in the Indian Premier League (IPL) history.
Despite a high-scoring match where other bowlers struggled, Bumrah was great. He bowled four overs giving away only only 22 runs and taking two key wickets. His economy of 5.50 is the lowest in the match. His impressive performance took him to the milestone of 150 wickets in just 124 IPL matches.
The legendary Lasith Malinga was the previous record holder for Mumbai Indians. He took 170 wickets for Mumbai Indians. He accomplished this feat in just 105 games. Yuzvendra Chahal is second, reaching the 150-wicket mark in 118 matches.
Bumrah is now close to Malinga’s all-time record for a single franchise. Kolkata Knight Riders all-rounder Sunil Narine with 166 wickets is just four wickets behind Malinga’s 170.
In a record-scoring match, Bumrah played a crucial role for Mumbai Indians. Prithvi Shaw and Porel fought hard to help DC chase down the 235 target. Both the batsmen looked dangerous stitching together 88-run partnership. However, Bumrah showed his skill with accurate bowling which forced both batsmen to work hard for every run.
Bumrah’s impressive spell of 2/22 played a key role in thwarting Delhi Capitals’ mammoth chase of 235 runs, a feat never achieved at the Wankhede Stadium. Early wickets dampened DC’s momentum, eventually putting the chase well out of reach despite a late surge from Tristan Stubbs.
