Cricket legend Yuvraj Singh is gearing up to relive his World Cup glory days! The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced on Friday that Singh will be an official ambassador for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, held jointly in the West Indies and USA from June 1 to 29.
A Fitting Tribute: 36 Days and Six Sixes
This appointment holds special significance. With just 36 days remaining until the tournament kicks off, the ICC celebrates Yuvraj’s iconic feat from the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007 – smashing six sixes in a single over. India went on to win that tournament, and Yuvraj’s contribution remains etched in cricketing history.
Yuvraj Excited for World Cup Festivities and Growth of Cricket
“Some of my fondest cricketing memories come from playing at the T20 World Cup,” Singh said in a statement. “Being part of this edition, which is set to be the biggest one yet, is very exciting.”
He expressed his enthusiasm for the unique atmosphere in the West Indies and the potential for cricket’s growth in the USA. Yuvraj will be involved in promotional events leading up to the tournament, including the highly anticipated India-Pakistan clash in New York on June 9th.
Joining a Star-Studded Ambassador Team
Yuvraj joins fellow cricketing legend Chris Gayle of the West Indies and eight-time Olympic gold medalist Usain Bolt as the first World Cup ambassadors announced. This trio promises to add immense excitement to the biggest T20 World Cup ever staged.
A Privilege to Witness Greatness
“India’s clash against Pakistan in New York is going to be one of the biggest sporting fixtures in the world this year,” Yuvraj said. “It’s a privilege to be a part of it and witness the best players compete in a new stadium.”
The ICC echoed these sentiments. “Yuvraj’s name is synonymous with the T20 World Cup,” said Claire Furlong, ICC General Manager of Marketing and Communications. “He joins Chris Gayle and Usain Bolt as ambassadors who will each contribute to the excitement of this historic event.”
Yuvraj Singh’s return to the World Cup scene, this time as an ambassador, promises to reignite memories of his past heroics and fuel the anticipation for a spectacular tournament.sharemore_vert
