With the Indian Premier League (IPL) in full swing and the ICC T20 World Cup on the horizon, a key player for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Dinesh Karthik, has his sights set on a prestigious spot in the national team’s squad. The marquee tournament kicks off in June this year, with matches split between the West Indies and USA.
Crucial Clash for RCB
The upcoming clash against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) is a critical one for RCB. Currently languishing at the bottom of the points table with only two points from seven games, they face a formidable KKR outfit boasting a strong record of four wins and two losses.
Burning Desire to Represent India
During a pre-match press conference, RCB’s wicketkeeper-batter, Dinesh Karthik, openly expressed his fervent desire to represent India at the World Cup. “At this stage in my career, it would be the greatest feeling for me,” he declared, emphasizing that playing for India remains the ultimate achievement in his cricketing journey.
Trust in Selection Committee
With the T20 World Cup selection process underway, Karthik acknowledged the competitive nature of securing a spot. He highlighted the presence of “three very stable and honest people” at the helm of Indian cricket – head coach Rahul Dravid, skipper Rohit Sharma, and chief selector Ajit Agarkar. He expressed his unwavering trust in their ability to pick the best possible team for the tournament.
“I respect any decision that they make,” he said. “But all I can say is I am 100 percent ready. And you know I’ll do everything I can to be on that flight to the World Cup.”
In-Form Karthik Bolsters RCB’s Batting
Karthik has been in top form this season, amassing an impressive 226 runs in seven matches with an average of 75.33 and a phenomenal strike rate of 205.45. His two well-constructed half-centuries, including a top score of 83, have been instrumental for RCB’s batting performance amidst inconsistencies from other batsmen.
