Kannada Minister Struggles To Write: Karnataka Minister for Kannada and Culture Shivaraj Tangadagi became the subject of internet trolling after a video surfaced of him struggling to write in Kannada at an event in Koppal district.
The incident was captured on video when Tangadagi attempted to write ‘shubhavagali’, which means best of luck in Kannada, during a visit to an Anganwadi (a rural child care center) in the district’s Karatagi village.
Social media users criticized Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for “choosing and selecting such ministers” and ridiculed the minister for not being able to write a “simple word” in Kannada.

Karnataka BJP, too, joined in to criticize Tangdagi. On social media site X, the party wrote: “On one side is Madhu Bangarappa, who cannot read and write in Kannada, and on the other side is S Tangadagi, Minister for Kannada and Culture, who is having difficulty writing even a simple word.” The party said that the Siddaramaiah government was suppressing Kannada.
Tangadagi hails from Bagalkot, and he is a three-time MLA from Kanakagiri. He is a Bachelor of Science graduate. It may be noted that Tangadagi struggled to write the word, he didn’t write it wrong. However, since he is literally a “Kannada language and culture” minister, the incident was telling.

After this incident, Tangadagi felt the heat from social media. He is the second minister to get heat from social media over Kannada after Education Minister Madhu Bangarappa. In November 2024, the Education Minister was widely criticized for his reaction to a student’s remark that he didn’t know Kannada.
