As the Delhi assembly election campaign intensifies, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal has issued a strong warning to voters. Speaking at a public gathering in Adarsh Nagar, Kejriwal emphasized the remarkable transformation of Delhi under his governance and cautioned residents about potential six-hour power outages if the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) takes control.
Uninterrupted Power Supply Under AAP
Kejriwal highlighted the improvements in the power sector, claiming that Delhi now enjoys round-the-clock electricity. Reflecting on the past, he reminded citizens that a decade ago, six-hour power cuts were a common occurrence. He compared the situation with BJP-ruled states, stating, “The BJP governs 20 states, yet none of them receive 24-hour electricity. If you make the wrong choice, Delhi will once again experience prolonged outages. The moment you press the ‘Kamal’ (lotus) button, electricity will vanish before you reach home.”
Kejriwal’s government has not only ensured uninterrupted power but also focused on reducing power theft and modernizing the electricity distribution system. This has resulted in higher efficiency and reduced costs for consumers. Residents have appreciated the efforts, as they no longer face the challenges of frequent blackouts that once disrupted their daily lives and businesses.
Affordable Electricity Rates in Delhi
The Delhi Chief Minister also addressed the issue of electricity tariffs, asserting that his government has ensured affordable rates for the people. Comparing Delhi to Gujarat, he stated, “In Gujarat, a household consuming 400 units pays Rs 4,500. However, if you choose incorrectly here, you may soon end up paying Rs 10,000 for the same consumption.” Kejriwal urged voters to consider the cost-effectiveness of his administration’s policies.
In addition to affordable tariffs, the AAP government has introduced subsidies that benefit lower and middle-income families, making electricity more accessible to everyone. The power subsidy scheme has been widely welcomed, allowing households to receive zero electricity bills under a specific consumption limit, which has eased financial burdens on thousands of residents.
Focus on Welfare and Development
Kejriwal reiterated AAP’s commitment to welfare programs, saying, “If God asks me what I did on earth, I’ll say I provided education to the poor.” He reaffirmed his government’s focus on healthcare by announcing plans to establish three new mohalla clinics in every ward, aiming to improve healthcare accessibility across the city.
Apart from healthcare and education, the AAP government has invested heavily in infrastructure development, including road improvements, water supply enhancements, and pollution control measures. Kejriwal assured voters that his administration is dedicated to holistic development that benefits every segment of society.
Criticism of the BJP’s Approach
Taking a dig at the BJP, Kejriwal accused the opposition party of neglecting Delhi’s development and focusing only on criticism. “They never speak about their contributions to Delhi in the last decade. Their only agenda is to attack me personally,” he remarked.
Caution to Slum Dwellers
Kejriwal also addressed the concerns of slum dwellers, warning them about BJP leaders who have been visiting slums and engaging with residents. He cautioned, “These are the same people who demolish slums. Today they may be playing carrom with your kids, but their track record speaks otherwise.”
He further assured slum residents that his government has worked on in-situ rehabilitation projects to provide better housing facilities without displacing them. The AAP has promised to continue its efforts to upgrade slum infrastructure and provide essential amenities.
Election Details and AAP’s Confidence
The Delhi assembly elections are scheduled for February 5, with the counting of votes set to take place on February 8. Kejriwal, who has been holding extensive public meetings across the city, expressed confidence in securing a third consecutive term. In Adarsh Nagar, he was joined by Mukesh Goel, the AAP candidate who replaced two-time MLA Pawan Sharma. Kejriwal assured residents that Goel would continue to work diligently for their welfare.
AAP’s Previous Performance
The AAP secured a significant victory in the 2020 elections, winning 62 out of 70 seats. With an emphasis on development and welfare, the party is aiming to retain its stronghold and further its vision for Delhi.
Conclusion
As election day nears, Kejriwal’s warnings and promises highlight the critical issues facing Delhi voters. From uninterrupted power supply to affordable electricity rates and healthcare expansion, the AAP government seeks to persuade residents to continue their support. The choice, as Kejriwal puts it, could determine whether Delhi continues to progress or returns to the challenges of the past.
