Chhaava Review: The film ‘Chhaava’ attempts to show us the heroic story of the Maratha warrior Chhatrapati Shambhaji Maharaj. The film, starring Vicky Kaushal in the lead role, was released in theaters today amidst huge expectations. Let’s see how much the film impressed the audience in this review.
Cast: Vicky Kaushal, Rashmika Mandanna, Akshaye Khanna, Ashutosh Rana, Divya Dutta, Diana Penty and others
Director: Laxman Utekar
Producer: Dinesh Vijan
Music: AR Rahman
Cinematography: Saurabh Goswami
Editor: Manish Pradhan
Story:
The Maratha Empire was shaken by the death of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Mughal emperor Aurangzeb (Akshaye Khanna), who considered this as an opportunity, tries to secure the Maratha Empire. However, unexpectedly, Chhatrapati Shambhaji Maharaj (Vicky Kaushal) stands in his way. Shambhaji suffocates the Mughal army with his war tactics and martial arts. With this development, Aurangzeb himself enters the battlefield. However, some people in the Maratha Empire betray Shambhaji. After this, will Shambhaji Maharaj save his empire or not..? Who betrayed Shambhaji along with the enemy army..? To know these things, you must watch this movie on the silver screen.
Plus Points :
Vicky Kaushal has given an excellent performance in the role of Chhatrapati Shambhaji Maharaj. Especially in the climax, his performance impresses the audience. His dialogue delivery and screen presence elevates the movie further.
Rashmika Mandanna has played the role given to her effectively. Despite the importance of her role, her screen presence is limited.
Akshaye Khanna performed decently as Aurangzeb. He shone on screen as the emperor with the most cruel mentality while remaining silent. Ashutosh Rana, Divya Dutta, Diana Penty and others did full justice to their roles.
It must be said that all the actors gave their best performances. They cultivated the story in such a way that the characters were visible on the screen without losing their flow anywhere.
Minus Points:
No matter how good the story is in such historical films, its execution should also be good. Although director Laxman Utekar’s direction is impressive, the screenplay should have been sharper. The screenplay faltered in keeping the audience engaged.
The first half feels stretched. The war scenes in the second half should have been made more gripping. The elements of backstabbing and betrayal should have been presented with stronger emotion. If they had done so, the story would have been taken forward more interestingly.
Although there are many strong characters in the story, it seems that only a few have been given priority. If there had been a little visual glimpse along with Shivaji Maharaj’s voice over, the film would have had more impact.
Technical Aspects:
Laxman Utekar presented the heroism of Shambhaji Maharaj with great conviction. However, the film would have been stronger if more focus had been placed on the screenplay. AR Rahman’s music is decent. Rishi Virmani and Irshad Kamil’s dialogues are impressive.
The editing work should have been better. Especially in some scenes in the first half, we see editing errors. The production values are impressive. The visuals in the film look very grandiose. Saurabh Goswami’s cinematography could have been a little better.
Pattudala Movie Review: Ajith Shines But Movie Not So Much..
Final word: Chhaava Review
Overall, ‘Chhaava‘ is an impressive historical action drama. Vicky Kaushal’s excellent performance is the strength of this film. However, some stretched scenes and the narrative that seems long are a minus for the film. This film will connect with those who want to see the heroism of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Shambhaji Maharaj once again. Common audiences can also try this film this weekend.
